History of Cherith Gospel Outreach

The work began as a result of a desire to reach as many people as possible with the Gospel.

Both sets of our Grandparents never heard the Gospel. WHY? Our parents were in their sixties when they heard the Gospel from us. Nobody had ever explained to them the Way of Salvation. WHY? We were in our late twenties when we heard the Gospel for the first time. We have often wondered WHY nobody told us before then?

Here in Ireland generations of people have lived and died without ever hearing the Gospel even once. WHY? As we look out upon the world we see the plight of countless men and women and boys and girls who are still in spiritual darkness. Multitudes have never heard the Gospel. WHY?

We have been challenged to ask the question –‘LORD, WHAT WILT THOU HAVE ME TO DO?’

For a number of years after our conversion we were involved in local evangelism. This involved door – to – door visitation, open – air preaching and weekly meetings in our home.

We then moved to the Gospel Outreach Centre. We invited a number of Outreach Teams to assist us in our efforts to take the Gospel to many of the rural areas in Co. Tipperary. The Teams were based at the Centre and we were involved with them in Orientation, Evangelism and Gospel meetings. During our time at the Centre the Lord challenged us concerning the possibility of reaching out to the multitudes overseas who had never heard the Gospel.

In December 1994 we made our first Gospel Tape. We supplied hundreds of these to Port Missionaries who placed them aboard ships that docked at Irish ports. A number of sailors wrote to us expressing their gratitude for the tapes. Over the next number of years we made further Gospel Tapes and these have travelled to several parts of the world.

In 1995 the Lord enabled us to write our first Booklet. Approximately 100,000 of these are in circulation. This Booklet was translated into the French language and is presently being used in some of the African countries. It has also been translated into the Portuguese language.

Further Booklets and Tracts have been written since then and are being used in various parts of the world.

Some of the literature is localised. For instance the Booklet entitled ‘Croagh Patrick, a place of HOPE for the Irish’ was written specifically for Outreach at the Annual Croagh Patrick Pilgrimage, which is held in Co. Mayo on the last Sunday in July each year. This Booklet has also been translated into the Irish language.

The Lord enabled us to write some Booklets and Tracts specifically suitable for evangelism on Achill Island. We have also had the opportunity to write literature suitable for Gospel Missions and Evangelistic efforts in Northern Ireland and the Republic.

Over the past few years we have had opportunity to reach many of the Asylum-Seekers who have come to live in Ireland. The Lord enabled us to supply them with Bibles, Gospel Literature, Tapes and Videos. Some of them are doing a Bible Correspondence Course with us. God also made it possible for us to minister to their practical needs and to supply them with clothes.

We are now based in the village of Borrisoleigh, in Co. Tipperary and continue the Literature and Tape ministry.

We are reminded in the Scriptures that Jesus looked upon the multitude with compassion. May we have that same compassion in our hearts, and may it motivate us to do WHAT we can, WHILE we can, as the Lord enables us.
